A much loved listed church in the heart of Edenbridge, the Church of St John presented a uniquely sensitive challenge – improving access for its congregation without ever closing its doors. Working alongside Turner and Hoskins Architects, we delivered a new accessible ramp, an accessible WC and a kitchenette for the church’s users, all while the building remained in daily use throughout the works. Careful planning and phasing kept the church running and disruption to a minimum. Bespoke railings and hard wearing external resin finishes to the ramp combine practicality with a look in keeping with the building’s character. The result gives disabled and elderly members of the congregation the freedom to enjoy the building they love, with far less hassle.
